A kind of poetry

So, I wrote a poem for spnapo.

  1. (April Fools’ Day) “I don’t like poetry. Put up or shut up.” -Meg (demon 2.0), “Reading is Fundamental.”

I don’t like poetry, Meg says.

A poem, she says, has too many tangents.
It twists words looking for rhymes,
Tries too hard to be—plangent.
Like church bells.

Poetry reminds her of clamouring priests
in churches full of hate for her kind.
Women, witches, a hate-feast
Of bitter fools.

Cas says, in the beginning was the Word
Yeah, and they said the Word was God, she scoffs
So put up or shut up

Laughable lovers write poems, Meg points out.
She can’t afford to believe in love,
It’s not what Hell’s about.
Unlike Castiel.

I wield words as weapons, Meg says.

There’s a kind of poetry in that, Cas thinks.

That was lovely!

Wow, honey this is fabulous!! I did briefly consider doing something from over there but I always end up chickening out when it comes to poetry. This however is brilliant! Those last two lines - killer!

Wonderful! I loved the focus on Meg, and the last few lines are perfect.

Thanks! I'm not really a poet but it's fun to dabble!

Thanks - but you should have a go - the prompts are good ones!

Thanks, she's not a character I write very often so it always feels a bit daring when I do LOL

I wanted to do something different but it didn't really fit so...I left this ending as it was. So it's nice you liked it!

Oh yes you should! [livejournal.com profile] laughablelament and I would love to have you play in the poetry yard <3.
And all kinds of stuff would be so welcome, not just traditional verse-y business but maybe a weird little drabble, and experimental bit of prose, a hybrid of meta and poetry, images (including graphics, because all kinds of images are fair game, heh,) something like a cento, or found poetry, that takes other works and uses parts of them; erasure poetry? Check out out the "toybox" on the comm if you like!

"Tries too hard to be--plangent
Like church bells.": gods that's awesome.

This is so poignant and plainspoken, two of my fave things in poetry (or prose, heh.)

I'm gonna have more to say about why I love it about it later, on the comm. <3

Women, witches, churches...you really grabbed something essential to Meg, to demons in SPN, there...! <3

Also we were talking about your art over in the comments on [livejournal.com profile] spn_bigpretzel. I love [livejournal.com profile] blackrabbit42's icon. (comments)
