I think Mark Rylance is amazing, he's a very subtle actor and I love the way he gives his Cromwell a wry sense of humour. The first week when his wife and daughters died was so sad! And a lot of it was filmed at the beautiful Penshurt Place, which is about 15 mins from where I live.
