I watched the show when it originally aired, and I'm working my way through S1 right now with a couple of friends who've never seen it before. You may have done yourself a favor by skipping over the miniseries, frankly--it's deadly slow. My friends only made it through with a heavy dose of bourbon and snark, but once they got into the series proper they loved it.
