Inktober is nearly upon us - I hope to do more than half a dozen of the days this time!

I can't remember how I came across this now but I've sent off for my sketchbook. It sounds like such a wonderful project, and I'd LOVE to go to Brooklyn just to browse through their hundreds and thousands of sketchbooks.

I thought I'd post it here in case any of my Flisties fancied having a go - you can put anything and everything in your book, you don't have to be an 'artist' to contribute.

It's been a while... and I've missed a few weeks of classes due to holidays.

By Jove, I think he's done. Finally! Now I have to varnish him. This bear is being sponsored by a company called Biomass and they've given me some special varnish that is supposed to keep my bear free from bacteria - apparently they are going to go round the trail swabbing bears to show how their product keeps mine so much cleaner! LOL

Since I need to produce something for Tom Ellis to sign before I leave for Italy, I thought I might take a couple of reference photos with me to work from in tonight's sketchbooking class. I kind of like the watercolour techniques we were trying but sadly, the end results don't resemble Tom very much at all. In fact the second one looks more like that Tyler thingy from Teenwolf. Which is weird since I've never watched the show and have only see pics of him at conventions and on Tumblr.

Never mind, it's all good practice!
First one (done on sketchbook paper which is really rubbish at taking watercolour, soaks it up like blotting paper).
Second one (done on this weird plastic-like paper I bought to try out, and it's quite fun to use).
I'm wondering whether I can now go over this subtle watercolour with something else and make it more like Tom.

I think Bhangra Bear is basically done. The white of the metal strut things looks a bit odd so I thought I'd paint them too but apart from that, it's just about finished. I've got to get approval before varnishing - no idea what their criteria are for signing it off but hopefully it will pass muster!

It's hard to get photos indoors, but I've taken a few to spam you with LOL.

NB this post contains nudes of both sexes.

Bhangra bear is coming along, his waistcoat is taking a while but is starting to look how I envisaged it so yay! The combination of paint and acrylic markers is working well, though the markers lose their nib integrity pretty quickly so I'm having to trim them back with scissors.

After the bears there is nudity! )

This is one of those things where time passes without realising it... I started at about 9:30 this morning and after a while I thought maybe it was time for a break. Uh huh, just a bit - it was nearly 1pm! Now I've called a halt for the day at 4pm because my back's knackered and I'm supposed to be going to life drawing class tonight. Damn the reversals of life. When I was young and fit I had no time, now I've got time but a body that's falling to bits LOL. It's just as well I'm not painting in public as the grunting and groaning and swearing while I'm crawling, lying and kneeling isn't pretty.

That being said, Clarence is coming along!

My living room has been rearranged and thankfully the lion fit through the doors so he's now safely ensconced in the bay window. My back is killing me from all the tidying and furniture-moving, so I've just spent the last hour or so sitting on the sofa (now in the fireplace!) contemplating his magnificent whiteness. I may start drawing out the design on him tomorrow.
Here's the room awaiting delivery this morning. The tape measure was there to reassure me that I'd cleared sufficient space for a 1.7m long lion.Read more... )

Duck shoot

My friend Lois and I got out ducks in a row this morning, and took them for a photoshoot in the park.

I've been busy trying to get my otter painted for the Dartmoor Otter trail, while decorating the giant plastic ducks for the Grand Norwich Duck Race.

Sadly my knight never made it past the initial shortlist, and my artist friend didn't get her design accepted either, which was much more surprising. So that's a shame - though I'm still planning a long weekend in Lincoln next summer with my Mum so we can peruse the competition then!

However, I entered a design for an otter trail in Dartmoor and that one got accepted - so sometime in December/early January I'll be getting a 3 foot tall otter sculpture to paint up! That one is being run by the National Park, not the usual company who do the trails nationwide, and I think it's slightly less professional in its approach to things. The reason I say that is because I sent in a Harry Otter design first of all, and the chap in charge emailed back to say they already had one of those, so would I like to submit something else? The deadline was only a couple of days away as I'd only heard about the project late, but he wasn't bothered, said I could take a few more days if I wanted. So I asked if anyone had done the Hound of the Baskervilles (which is set on Dartmoor). He said, no, and he'd reserve the design idea for me! Still i was happy to get official confirmation today.

This one doesn't pay a stipend like the Wild in Art ones do, but I can claim back up to £100 for materials, and if mine is one of a 'golden' 25 otters that get auctioned, then I get 10% of the auction price. Which is better than nothing, though I've no clue how these golden otters get chosen.

So with the otter and three large plastic ducks to paint for the Grand Norwich Duck Race 2017, I think I'll be quite busy for a while. LOL

It's been pointed out that I should have shared some piccies so here they are:

Art Rec10!

Nov. 14th, 2016 03:19 pm
amberdreams: (Bum)
This is a different format for an art rec post - and I haven't forgotten I said I was going to do an art rec post every month and only managed two!

sillie82, quickreaver and I were talking about memes and art and stuff and quickreaver came up this idea: the ArtRec10 meme! Give us links to ten of your favorite pieces of SPN/RPF fandom artworks. Could be on LJ, tumblr, deviantart, wherever. We know there's lots of faves, but try to pick a few. Let's make today a little more beautiful! Couldn't we use that right now?

Topics may overlap — for instance, your h/c fill may be digital — but we'd like to see ten unique reccs, if you can manage it. Also, be sure to provide a link to the original art, so folks can leave love for the artist. If you choose to post the images, mind the image sizes and be sure to put it all under a cut.

Here are mine, trying not to repeat any from my Feb and April rec posts...

Well, not really woes, more throes of indecision. I've got a bunch of ideas rattling round in my head and I just don't know what to go for. What's going to tempt my lovely authors this year? What visuals are going to spark those synapses and get the old creative juices flowing?

Do I go for one of each - an SPN and a RPF prompt? Or try and be more open, and offer pics that would be suitable to either genre?

I'm toying with a possible powers!Sam which could also be a powers!Dean pic, depending how you look at it. But  I've got this idea about smoke and voodoo which is more about the picture I want to draw than the story I might get. And then there's the kind of fics I'd love to tease out of RBB - like superheroes or war stories, or spaaaaaaace...

What to do, what to do!!?

I missed my original date for this post but here it is, better late than never. A little celebration of the fantastic breadth of talent in Fandom.
Bear in mind, this is just a small sample of what's out there, and it's only the tip of the iceberg of wonderful art I've admired over the years. Plus, they are not in any particular order. I LOVE THEM ALL and I wish I could just post everything here because it's all SO GOOD.

But I can't, so here's a selection.

Today's the big day! All you eager authors out there get to peek (and be tempted by) some wonderful art! We've decided to do it a little different this year; we're test-driving using Flickr as our hosting site for the images. It's a wonderful viewing platform and allows for gorgeous expansion of the images. Let us know what you think.

NB in Flickr click on the image to read the information about the picture and find any links to gifs and vids.

If we've inadvertently forgotten anyone or you see a problem, shoot us a PM or email us at ASAP. (We're only human! I swear. No angels or demons here. Might be a shifter or two, though. Not sure.)

Remember, no reposting anywhere else without permission of the artist. A few of the images may not be safe for work, so view with care. Claims will commence Saturday, November 7, 10:00 am EST.

So, without further ado, the 2015 SPN RB art!

I've started a new community:

[ profile] wedraweveryday!

This is a community for those who wish to art every day.

Anyone can join, watch or post.

Despite the name, any kind of art is welcome, be it stained glass, sculpture, papercutting, figurine painting, photography, anything at all!

You don't have to post every day, unless you want to. You don't have to post everything you draw, unless you want to.

You can post anything, from stick figures to the roughest of sketches to doodles to linearts to WIPs to finished works. There's no pressure for anything to be perfect or polished - this is about drawing every day, not being perfect every day :) Though if you want constructive criticism, you're free to post asking for that, too!

I'll try to have a daily post wherein people can comment about what they've been working on, or leave links to things they don't want to post as entries. (Should I post daily, or once a week? Twice a week? Feedback on this is appreciated.)

Encouraging comments are encouraged :D

[ profile] wedraweveryday! Join, watch, post, spread the word! The more people the better :)

I had to post about this because this is so wonderful! I wish I could justify spending £40 for one of these - or maybe a Black Shuck since they are local to where I live...
